I've been missing!

Yup, lost in that sea of assignment submissions and exams.

I found a new lease of life 2 days ago on Monday when I ended my last exam paper on Linear Algebra at Sing Poly. The prior week had been the most stressful week of the year. Not only was my part-time Masters dissertation due on Friday, I had to contend with Mon and Wed paper which I did not particularly prepare except the week before. Anyway, enough of raining on this subject...

Despite an impending last paper, I nonetheless had a laugh of my life when I went for the play Own Time Own Target (OTOT) in the Esplanade with JJ O 俊杰, ShiLong LLG and George. OTOT was part of the OCBC Singapore film festival and it starred Nick Shen together with a motley of other thespians active in the play scene.

I did not expect that there would be a collection of three plays spanning 3 hr 15 min! For a ticket that's $27, it's an absolute steal! When Dim Sum Dollies first started out, ticket price was very reasonable. Of course when words get around that the Dollies are not just mere talking barbie dolls, the price can only head north for future performances.. and by then people have no qualms paying big $$ to have their bones tickled!

Besides the authentic Sikh accent and demeanor, plus the highly visual glamorous display of men in drag in their various roles as aunties cashier, dance hostesses, and not forgetting journalist (Oh yes, Tricia Teo), here is one example among many of what they said that drove us to sheer madness:

Recruit, you think this is the President Star Charity is it?? If there is one NATHAN, it's you - COCKANATHAN!

Of course, expletives flew like water in Thailand water festival. Perhaps a bit contrived, but otherwise have this lil vicarious humorous effect in some occassions.

For those who would like to know what we watched, I have done a snatch text from http://www.singaporetheatrefestival.com/index.php/the-plays/own-time-own-target

(1) FULL TANK by Laremy Lee
In the midst of a desperate island-wide search for an *oops* escaped terrorist, Sergeant Leroy and his motley crew hijack a tank and go AWOL, embarking on a joyride through Singapore’s streets! (2) RADIO SILENCE by Laremy Lee
An NSF officer and his wary driver are lost in the jungle, their unspecified mission taking them deeper and deeper into a no man’s land where rank can break down as quickly as the radio …

(3) BOTAK BOYS by Julian Wong
BMT is every Singaporean male’s nightmare. Or is it? Experience the heartache, the bravery and the rude shocks as Justin and his blur buddies sing and dance their way through Tekong! Will he find friends? Will his secret be exposed? Will he survive to become even more of a man?
I'm all the more convinced I should be going for more plays!
